Over the Moon @ Moon Blossom Day Spa

Before my long travels to Asia, nothing was better than receiving a facial from the ladies at Moon Blossom Day Spa! These ladies invited me to checkout their business, and boy was I blown away.

Located in Nampa (near Nampa High School), what seems like an ordinary establishment on the outside is a spa oasis in the inside. As you walk up the stairs, you may not think you’re walking to a spa, but don’t be fooled!

When you enter the door, you’re greeted with a cozy and comfortable setting, coupled with friendly staff and calming scents.

About Moon Blossom Day Spa

Moon Blossom Day Spa is a locally owned spa that opened up nearly two years ago. The co-owners, Aubrey and Shelly, were co-workers at their previous place of employment.  Aubrey and Shelly decided to step out on their own and open up their own spa — thank goodness! Moon Blossom Day Spa now blesses Nampa & the rest of the Treasure Valley.

The Spa offers so many different services, including:

  • Massage
  • Skin Care
  • Body Wraps
  • Makeup Artistry
  • Waxing
  • Hair & Nail Services
  • Eyelash Extension
  • Spa Day Packages
  • Spa Group Parties (PERFECT for brides, birthday parties, and other celebrations)

Boise Bucket List Facial

Aubrey treated me to the Moon Blossom Classic Facial. Boy, was my skin forever grateful! The Classic Facial includes:

  • Gentle Cleanse
  • Exfoliation
  • Warm Towel Treatment
  • Shoulder & Neck Stress-Reliever Massage
  • Clarifying Mask

OMG – I didn’t want this to end. Not at all! It was extremely relaxing, comforting, and gave me the refreshing glow anyone would want — especially before traveling to a new destination.

I particularly enjoyed Aubrey’s personal touch and attention. Moreover, I felt I was in my own private spa oasis. The spa room was cozy, comfortable, and had the perfect personal touch (photos of Aubrey’s beautiful little girl is on the wall near the door). From the classic relaxing sounds playing from the speakers to the calming aroma circulating the room — I was in a deep relaxing state I haven’t been in for some time.

I have extremely weak forearms (Carpel Tunnel anyone?!), and I’ll say her massage relieved some of the pressure I typically experience. It’s as though any build up in my forearm was released and dissipated.

I strongly suggest you visit the lovely ladies at Moon Blossom Day Spa!

Are you a student at College of Idaho and NNU? Even better! You get to enjoy a discount when you show your student ID (winning!).

Head out to Nampa & fall over the moon for the Moon Blossom Day Spa. You won’t be disappointed.

Wax On, Wax Off: European Wax Center Review

Last week,  I visited the ladies at the European Wax Center  (EWC) in Meridian. After getting lost (note: based on the address, my GPS led me to this vacant lot; the EWC is located in the WinCo shopping center next to Baskin Robbins) and receiving a kind reminder phone call from Alison confirming my visit, I arrived to EWC and excited about getting my eyebrows shaped.

Here’s more info than you may want to know  (oh well, that’s  what happens with a lifestyle blog). I have a love/hate relationship with my eyebrows.

Love: how they look AFTER waxed/shaped

Hate: how thick and wild they can get

Love: shape

Hate: shape when untamed

Love: how thick eyebrows are

Hate: how thick eyebrows are (especially when growing out)

You can imagine how excited I was when I was invited to a European Wax Center! It’s spring and the last thing I need are unshaped bushy eyebrows.

Once I arrived and checked in with Allison, I was greeted by Kari — a young woman with a beautiful smile. I wondered “hmm, I wonder if her smile will go away once she is tasked shaping my eyebrows!”.

Nope, not the case.

I followed Kari and entered the first private room to the left. It’s like your own private waxing paradise: personal chair to lay on, relaxed music, refreshing smell. After Kari instructed me to lay down, I started to get nervous about the wax. Weird, right? Especially for someone who has a high threshold for pain.

FYI: I usually get my eyebrows threaded, which for some, is excruciating pain. What we do for beauty!

What’s unique about EWC is the wax formula. Unlike most waxing centers, where they use white cotton strips to tear the wax from your skin, the wax itself is stripped without the use of cotton strips. The wax is very gentle and delicate to the skin — soothing, really.

Kari was very personable and I truly enjoyed her company. Her ability to strike up conversation was especially helpful when she was preparing to wax another part of my face. For the sake of being truthful and at the risk of being embarrassed (well, not too embarrassed), Kari also waxed the upper lip. Yes, I said it. Don’t act like women don’t succumb to the uni-brow and upper lip hair syndrome.

Again, I have a high threshold for pain but nothing burns more than hot wax being ripped from your skin. Kari definitely was right when she said how gentle their wax is. It didn’t burn whatsoever. Maybe a slight sting, but it’s definitely better than my eyes automatically watering because of waxing pain!

Again, what we do for beauty.

After the wax, Kari shaped my eyebrows using a pencil and powder to fill in the gaps. She even taught me how to do it! (OK, another thing about me is that I’m not the best with all that makeup masterful skills: contouring, highlighting, concealing, etc. It’s called put on some mineral powder and GO!). Kari also put some refreshing cream on my face, giving it that additional glow.

After receiving my services, I proceeded to checkout and chat with Alison. She went over all the details of what the EWC  offers the Treasure Valley including:

  • FREE Complimentary Wax for 1st-time guests (applicable for brow, underam, or bikini line wax (women) & ear, nose & brow for gents);
  • Student Wax Pass: purchase 3 services and get one free (must show student ID);
  • Unlimited Wax Pass: ideal if you get a type of service multiple times throughout the year. It pays for itself!

I scheduled my next appointment in mid-April. Why that far out? Because the wax treatments lasts up to 4 weeks! I ALMOST mustered the guts to book for a service named after a country where beautiful models were born (Gisele Bundchen, anyone?).

Nope, not yet. Nooooottt YET!

Checkout EWC, both in Meridian and Boise. If anything, a free complimentary wax is a WIN-WIN!

Get Juiced, Boise!

I’m feeling under the weather.

Is that a surprise? Probably not considering this weather. It doesn’t help that my colleague’s son is sick, causing her to be sick, and now the rest of the staff is down! I’m going to fight this, no matter what I have to do. I have a date this Friday night! Another (potential) story to add to my other #datingintheBOI moments.

Rather than pumping some ramen noodles in my system (which is fine, but I’ve been eating healthy these past few weeks & don’t want all that sodium in my system), I decided to finally checkout Boise Juice Co., a local company which makes cold-pressed juices, whole-food smoothies, and acai bowls. No better reason (at least for me) to visit a juice bar is when I’m under the weather.

It’s about 5 miles away from my job — not much of a drive.

I pulled up and saw Boise Hot Yoga. I thought hmm, I should add this to my #boisebucketlist. Duly noted. After being greeted by a nice gentleman, I proceeded to the counter and asked the young lady about what’s good for a cold. I kind of put her on the spot, but I wanted to maximize my first visit to Boise Juice Co.

I ended up getting:

  1. The Popeye: an acai bowl mixed with blueberries, pineapple, strawberries, banana, kale, spinach, and apple juice. It’s then topped with organic hemp granola, banana, strawberries, and pineapple honey.
  2. Turmeric Tonic juice: pineapple, orange, carrot, turmeric and ginger
  3. Nice Melons juice (help with my immunity): red apples, cantaloupe, orange, carrot, and lemon

I plan to drink the juices throughout the day until I get home for some delicious soup. Most likely, I’ll lay out on my couch, turn on some Vanderpump Rules, and veg out.

C’mon people, I need to get better before Friday!
